AM - 7.25 miles. 60 min easy. Coach suprised us today with a trail run instead of 10x800 which was really nice. We ran Mustang Pass and were actually able to run the whole loop which was super fun and legit. Knee felt fine on the run but really bothered me on Plyos after.

PM - 4.75 miles. 40 min easy. Got out on my own today at about 4 and it was so hot. Knee didn't feel good so that made it even worse.

Race: Dixie All-Comers 2014 (3 Miles) 00:17:15, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 3

AM - 3.75 miles. 30 min easy. Good run this morning. Kept it a lot slower than usual and my knee didn't hurt.

PM - 7.5 miles. 60 min. Dixie All-Comers and 2x5:00 cruises with 3 min recovery. Time: 17:15. Overall Place: 6th. Place on Team: 3rd. We decided to run this race to determine who was running Varsity at Vegas so everybody but Nick was racing. So my only goal going in was to get a Varsity spot. I got out pretty slow and worked myself up to Jake on the first lap. On the second lap I just stuck right with Jake as we caught up to Andrew and Dallin. I was pretty suprised at this point to see that we weren't that far behind the leaders. On the third lap Jake started making his signature move but unlike Region last year, I went with him and we gapped Dallin and Andrew a bit. I made a move just up the steep hill and took the lead from Jake for the first time but he battled back coming into the finish. As we came around the basketball court, Jake kicked hard but I just couldn't get myself to kick. Mostly it was because I was already in a great position to get a Varstiy spot. Jake ended up beating me by 2 seconds. Definitely my best full race of the season. 3rd on team (basically 4th if Nick was racing) so I will be running Varstiy at Vegas which should be fun. I felt like I could have done a lot better if I wasn't just racing for a Varstiy spot. I probably could have gone with Paul and maybe even challenged Nephi and Lambert.

AM - 3.75 miles. Same old morning. Knee felt fine.

PM - 7 miles. 60 min with 5xSandy Hills. Decent workout. The first 4 were really strong and I was mostly up front but my legs just shutdown on the last one and it was total crap. Definitely an improvement on last week but much more work to be done on my hill running. Knee felt totally fine which was nice but it was deathly hot.

AM - 3.75 miles. Morning runs have been a lot more chill lately which is great.

PM - 9 miles. 60 min with 30 min steady state and striders. Great run today. It was pretty hot again which sucked but the steady state went well. Logan fell off for a second but other than that we stuck together really well. Felt really tired and sore after and my knee actually hurt again.

PM - 6 miles. 40 min easy with 4x200. Pretty hot run today so it was nice to hit up Sandbergs and jump in. Kept the 200s a little slower today. Knee felt fine but definitely felt a bit tired and sore.

Race: Larry Burgess - Las Vegas Invitational (3.2 Miles) 00:17:13, Place overall: 5

AM - 8 miles. 60 min. Las Vegas Invite. Pretty good race for me today. The plan coming in was to stick with Nick as long as I could. I didn't get out very well and I lost Nick right away and I had to weave around a ton of guys trying to catch back up to him. I caught him around mile 1 and we worked really well together for a little bit until I realized he wasn't quite with it today and I decided to go catch Paul. I can't really remember when I caught Paul but I didn't stick with him for long because Centennial had 3 guys in front of all of us and I had to catch some of them. I don't really remember much about the rest of the race. I mostly just shut my brain off and ran but 2 of the Centennial guys died off pretty hard in the last mile and I was able to pass them. As we came to the finish there was a kid just barely in front of me that I couldn't get myself to go and catch so there is something I need to work on: my kick. I ended up finishing 1st on the team and beating Nick for the first time ever which was super weird even if it was only by 0.2 seconds and it was an off day for him. I'm still really confused about what place I took because I got a 5th Place Medal but the results say I took 6th and I'm almost positive that there was only 1 Centennial guy in front of me instead of 2 like the results say. Great race for our whole team today too. I helped us win the Large School Varsity Guys race, our Frosh/Soph boys won their race, our JV guys were 1 point away from a perfect score, and our Varsity Girls took second. Las Vegas also does a Grand Champion award for all the races and our guys won it so that was legit and we had tons of people walk away with super legit medals. Super fun race today.

PM - 2.25 miles. 20 min easy. Coach told me to not run the workout and take it easy today because I was sick. I felt pretty good and I probably could have done more than 20 min but I didn't want to push anything.

PM - 8.75 miles. 60 min with striders. Still a little sick but it wasn't a workout or anything so I was able to do it all. Rainy again which was fun.

AM - 3.75 miles. 30 min easy. Still felt sick this morning. I really hope I'm all the way better by Friday so I can run at Herriman.

PM - 6 miles. 45 min. Time Trial #3. Not a great race. I got out quick and went right with Nick just like I planned but I didn't stick with him and my whole race fell apart. I ran with Nick and Paul for a lap and a half and then I pretty much gave up. I've never gone that fast before and I wasn't ready to handle it. The last mile was just me getting passed by 3 guys. Being sick definitely affected my race today but even with that it should have been better. Hope I get feeling better so I can be ready for Herriman. I didn't run the workout after because I was sick.

AM - 5.25 miles. 40 mi with 4, 3, 2, 1 min Fartleks. We ran up at the State Course today. It was fun to run on it but the fartleks didn't make me feel very good. My back tightened up like crazy on these which made them feel a lot harder than they should have been.

PM - 6.5 miles. 50 min. Herriman Invite. Race did not go how I would have liked it too. I planned on going with Nick but I was already tired after the first 800 meters because we were going up hill and I slowed down a lot. I picked it up once we got going downhill and I was able to pass a few people which was not easy because the course is so small. I got up the Motha Cussa strong but it totally wore me out and I slowed down. Luckily everyone else slowed down too so I didn't get passed by very many people but I wished I had kept a good pace because I could have passed a ton of people. Definitely not a good race for me but our team ended up taking 2nd behind American Fork which was a bit suprising but it showed that we have a really strong team even if some of us have off days.

AM - 4 miles. 30 min easy. Good run. Still felt tired and sore from the tough weekend (Race and Homecoming).

PM - 7.75 miles. 60 min with 7x800 and 3x400 with 1 min recovery. Times: 2:50, 2:42, 2:47, 2:46, 2:44, 2:47, 2:51, 1:24, 1:20, 1:16. Great workout for our team today. Definitely the strongest workout we've had in quite a while. We didn't group up very tight but we were still very close together and everyone was fighting to stick together. I went right with Paul on the first 4-5 800s but I started to tighten up and couldn't relax on those last couple and I fell behind quite a bit. On the 400s I couldn't get myself to relax on those either so they weren't as strong as they should have been but it was still a good workout. Definitely a step in the right direction.

AM - 3.75 miles. 30 minutes easy. Not feeling insanely great but it was a good run.

PM - 8 miles. 60 min with 3xmile repeats and 3 mile tempo. JV guys were racing at the Region Course for Duel in the Desert today and so we did our workout there today. Not my best workout. I did my best to stick with Paul on the mile repeats but I couldn't get myself to stay relaxed. Still hit some okay times around 5:45. For the tempo we just hopped in the guys race and tempoed it while they all raced. Our goal was to hit 18:30ish but it was supposed to be chill so we ended up hitting about 19:00. Nothing crazy but it was a good push and I was definitely tired after.

AM - 3.75 miles. 30 min easy. Felt a bit tired this morning. I didn't get much sleep last night.

PM - 2.5 miles. 20 min with pickups. We got to the course around 3 and were able to run the course and get familiar with it. We threw some pickups in as well to shakeout the legs from the long drive. I felt a lot less tired because I slept on the way down.

Race - 5.5 miles. Our race was super legit because it wasn't until 9:40 Cali time and so the sun had already set and it wasn't blazing hot. This race was very fast and I just wasn't ready for it today. I didn't get out as fast as I should have and I fell behind my teammates early. I tried to catch Andrew in the 2nd mile but every time I surged, I didn't hardly make a dent in the gap. In the 3rd mile I gave another surge but I still wasn't moving up on Andrew and I wasn't really passing anyone either. I finished with one of my best kicks of the season but it still wasn't that great. I barely missed breaking 16 (seriously my time was 16:00.0) which was kind of bummer but I was more bummed about my placing on the team. I was 6th on the team and I felt like I ran pretty well. It wasn't a bad race for me. It was just a better race for my teammates. I guess that's a good sign though and shows that our team is getting stronger. I need to work on my start because I kept the gap between me and Andrew pretty much the same for the whole race. If I had gone with Andrew from the start that gap never would have existed. Just something to work on. Our team won our race so I shouldn't be so bummed.

AM - 10.5 miles. 80 min with strong finish. Swag run in Cali. It wasn't very hot but it was super humid. It was a super fun run just exploring some places and the strong finish was super good. We did and Indian Run to finish and we were really moving. I'm not sure what pace we were actually hitting but it was blazing fast. I felt really tired and sore towards the end especially in my Hamstrings. Good run.

AM - 3.75 miles. 30 min easy. Hamstrings still felt tired and sore from the weekend.

PM - 7.5 miles. 50 min with 2 set Michigan and striders. Well the Michigan is basically a tempo workout with varying tempo paces. A 2 set Michigan starts with 800 meters on the track at 5k race pace, then 1.5 miles on the grass at 10k race pace, then 800 meters on the track at 5k race pace, 1.5 miles on the grass at 10k race pace, and an all-out 400 to finish. Total distance of the 2 set Michigan is 4.25 miles. We have two different standards (A and B) that we try to hit and are awarded if we do so. I came in looking to hit A standard for the first time which is a time of 25:10. I did not do as well as I should have today. In fact, most of our team ran pretty bad today. I took it out fairly slow with Jake and we slowly started working our way up to where we were supposed to be. As we hit the 2nd 800 meter on the track, Jake really started moving and I couldn't get myself to go with him. I caught Nick this time on the track and I could tell he was really struggling and so I passed him. The rest of the time, I was working on catching Jason but couldn't quite do it and finished quite crappy and Nick came back and passed me. I sadly missed out on A standard running like a 25:40 or something like that. That's pretty much the same time I hit last year so that's a little bit frustrating. I have definitely decided that I don't run so well when I take it out slower because I'm not very good at speeding up to make up for the slow start. I have made it a goal to get out fast from now on, not necessarily a front runner but definitely up closer to the front. I felt hardcore tired afterwards so I definitely need to work on getting more sleep.

PM - 9.75 miles. 75 min with strong finish. This was a really tough run. I felt tired the entire run. Even when we were going pretty slow it was tough for me and was a lot harder than it should have been. I was barely able to keep up with the team on the strong finish. We did an Indian run for our strong finish and I almost couldn't get to the front, my legs were so dead. Hopefully it is just a lack of sleep and not that we are doing too much.

PM - 5.75 miles. 50 min with 2 mile at 93% (goal: 11:57) and 2x1600 on the track hard (goal - 5:00) with 5 min recovery. Times: 12:00, 5:40, 5:25. Not as great as it should been. On the 2 mile I tried my best to stick with the group but I was feeling tired still and so I couldn't get myself moving. I still hit pretty much right where I wanted it so that was good. When we hit the track for our miles, I just wasn't ready. All the negative thoughts I have towards track and all those crappy 1600 repeat workouts I did during track really dragged me down today. Sure it was hot, I was tired, and a little dehydrated but it was mostly my mind that screwed me over on these. I should have been up by Paul and Nick but I was thinking super negative and ran really lazy out on the track. Just something to work on.

PM - 6 miles. 50 min. Nebo Invite. Really bummer race today. I didn't get out as quick as I wanted to and I got trapped for the first mile. I even got knocked to the ground during that first mile. The second mile I started moving up and caught up with Alex and we got moving together but he eventually pushed ahead again. The last mile, I just wasn't with it mentally and kind of gave up on myself. Not a good way to finish. It was totally unacceptable to take 98th place as our 6th guy. I need to run better.
