AM - 3.75 miles. 30 min easy. Pretty sore this morning. Pine View Invite starts tomorrow and I'm so excited. It is such a fun and big meet. Today is the last day to sign up so everybody sign up.

PM - 6.5 miles. 45 min easy with 4x200. Beast Shoe Run today. Bryan broke a duck's legs and we left a dead fish on the doorstep of one of our former runners. I felt exhuasted and sore but I should be ready for this weekend.

Controversial Topic of The Day - Should deer crossing signs be moved to less trafficed areas? I think it is ridiculous that we put deer crossing signs on some of the highest traffic roads and places like freeways where it is almost impossible to stop on a dime. We should move deer crossing signs to places where there is less traffic so that the deer will be much safer when crossing.

Wow so true. American public road systems are so stupid for putting deer crossings where they are. Freakin UDOT. I feel bad for all those poor deer that get ran over because the deer crossings are where people go very fast. They should at least change the speed limit to like 10-15 in a deer crossing.

And don't even get me started about rock slide areas... Why do they always put those on curvy steep roads where you can't even see the rocks before they are there.

south dakota has been testing deer bridges since 2013. they have built small bridges next to the deer crossing signs to allow the deer to safely cross the road. statewide, they have seen an 82% drop in deer-car collisions.

early on in the testing they faced a big problem in finding the right surface for the floors of the bridges. a lot of the deer were slipping in the winter months (since bridges ice before the road -- another sign we'll have to talk about later). while the deer bridge program eliminated a lot of deer deaths due to cars, it was also creating a lot of non-car injuries -- broken legs, cracked ribs, pelvic injuries, etc.

late last year they finally decided to start carpeting the bridges, and the latest update is showing zero bridge-related deer injuries since the first carpeting.

i think this is a much better idea than moving the signs to areas where there is less and/or slower traffic. why uproot a whole sign when you can just build a bridge?

Wow, this is a very disturbing problem you bring to light young Mr. Controversial Cam. Why don't we just set up some good people with assault rifles and lots of ammunition at known deer crossings, whether they have signs or not, and kill them before they can endanger all those poor defenseless automobiles, trucks and tractor trailers and such? This way you don't have to pollute the road sides with visual pollution (road signs) and waste good money on bridges to nowhere!
